CANCER SERVICES AT MIRZAPUR IN LIFELINE EXPRESS

Cancer Surgeries were done on Lifeline Express on 9th September, 2017 that is stationed at Mirzapur station. The surgeries were done completely free for poor people of the region suffering from very advanced cancers. The cancer surgery at life line express is being led by Prof Pankaj Chaturvedi of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. For Mirzapur project, Dr Sapan Shrivastava, Dr kamal Singh, Dr Sudhanshu Shekhar, Dr Singhal, Dr BK Mishra eminent surgeons from Allahabad joined the team.The Tata Memorial Centre is supporting the efforts of Impact India Foundation for accessible cancer services through Lifeline Express. In continuation there was a Continuous Medical Education Programme organised to sensitise and train the local doctors to screen and diagnose the cancer patient in early stages. The oral cancer screening done by the dentists at Lifeline Express found 36 patients suffering from oral cancers and 180 with pre cancerous lesions. This is one of the highest burdens of oral cancer ever detected in any of the camps held so far. This is due to very high level of tobacco chewing in this population. Breast cancer is also very common cancer that we found. So far Lifeline Express project at Mirzapur, sponsored by Hans Foundation and Taiki Sha have benefited thousands of patients and the work is still on going. With regards to cancer, the statistics is as follows -Total Population screened for cancer – 728, Oral Cancer Screening – 423, Female Screening – 300Oral Cancer Detected – 36, Breast Cancer detected – 11, Cancer of cervix – 10, Total Investigations for cancer detection 92, Short Summary of Patients:
1. Pintoo, 24 years, Oral Cancer from Gopalpur. He is a labourer with monthly income of 3000
2. Bharatlal, 55 years, stage 4 oral cancer from Lokapur. He is a farmer without any income
3. Lal Bahadur, 58 years, state 4 oral cancer from Kamapur Kala. He is a labourer
4. Anil Kumar , 32 years, Stage 3 Tongue Cancer from Bhujwar Chowki, daily wages employee
On December 08th 2016 Lifeline express have been added with two additional coaches to introduce Oral, Breast and Cervical cancer prevention and control programme. It was historic day when the first ever cancer surgery has been performed in the operation theatre of Lifeline Express Hospital train for Oral cancer. The objective of adding cancer services in lifeline express is to create cancer awareness, simplify screening & diagnostic methods and provide treatment to initial stage cancer patients.
On 9th September a cancer awareness workshop was done with help of Indian Medical Association along with the district health officials led by District Magistrate and CMO. Shri Vimal Kumar Dubey, District Magistrate will be the chief guest. Prof Pankaj Chaturvedi made presentation on prevention and early detection of cancers. Shri Vimal Kumar Dubey promised to do his best to improve the cancer prevention and screening program of the district. He expressed his happiness with performance of the Lifeline express for the poor and needy population.
